A while ago i moved my fridge to clean underneath to find i large amount of strange sticky molasses coloured fluid underneath thinking it was a spill of some type i cleaned it up without thinking. About a week ago i noticed it again peeking out from the front of the fridge so again i cleaned it up with a bit more wonder on what was going on so i went under and took out the drip try and it was fine no over flow of any type and no sign of this mystery liquid. Well in the past week i have been cleaning it up every day and it comes from the same spot the two front corners down the legs and onto the floor i know its not anything that has been spilled the fridge is spotless the tray is empty, the fluid has almost no smell but is sticky and dark coloured has anyone ever seen or had this happen feedback would be greatly appreciated

That's odd. Well, I can tell you there is nothing liquid in that machine other than the water for the ice maker and dispenser. You said it shows up every day and always at the front corners. That sounds like a possible drain issue for the defrost. Pull the door out and use your hand to feel the floor of the freezer for any ice. Look at the back wall inside the freezer and see if there is any ice by the bottom of the evaporator cover. It's just above the rise in the back.

this model only has optional ice maker in which i did not get and the freezer is up top, and yes only leaks from the front down the legs

OK, my bad. I saw the age 1-5 and B in the model number and thought it was a bottom mount. More like 10-15 years old and that model does have defrost drain issues. First open the fresh food section and remove the bottom crispers. See is there is any water on the refrigerator floor below the crispers. Look in the freezer section and see if there is any ice on the floor of the freezer section near the back.

clean as a whistle nothing that would indicate fluid anywhere im somewhat of a cook so i appreciate a clean uncluttered organized fridge so this does kinda worry me as in is this fridge going to cut out on me or is it contaminating my food, i have even got a hold of some maytag technicians and they said the same thing as you did "thats odd" i got a good laugh out of that. I did buy it brand new from a maytag dealer about 4.5 years ago and was told that it was a newer style, i know food not fridges so im guessing they werent exactly telling me the truth. Also i had done some reading in other technical support areas and forums and websites and so far the one thing i have heard is that it could actually be the breakdown of the interior insulation i dont know if this be true but with 29 years you are the most experienced i have talked to, is it possible something like this could happen.

It's possible I suppose, but I haven't heard of anything like that happening. I've seen similar issues with the foam-in insulation but always when water or another liquid was spilled and it had a chance to get into the foam insulation (not easy). I don't think you have anything to worry about to be honest. What you need to do is find where it's coming from. It shows up every day so it shouldn't be too difficult. Position a couple rags under the door corners and see if you can tell if its from the door or the cabinet. Fold the door seal back and look there for signs of a leak. If the machine gets a lot of use or if you're in a humid environment or high ambient temperatures, the insulation could collect condensation I suppose, but I don't know. I'll check my resources for any information on that type problem. Almost all of the parts for that refrigerator are no longer available when I looked it up. That too is odd for a 4.5 year old. If you give me your serial number I can tell you the exact age.

that would be greatly appreciated i was going to get someone from maytag to actually come and look at it but the price of labour and the travel cost seeing i live way out in the country i might as well buy a new fridge the serial for this fridge is 13543859LA i thank you again for your time and efforts not to many people doing this kinda thing anymore

Manufactured January 2006. The doors do not have the same insulation as the cabinet and the door liners can be removed. More insulation can be added if needed. That's the first place I would start looking. There is also a yodder loop around the freezer in the front. That might be the cause and the second place to look if the door is good.

Can you take a photo or 2 of it and post it here?

Or share it here from your photos.google.com account? Or dropbox account?
